STATE OF BLACK SUSTAINABILITY REPORT: 

INDUSTRY HOUSE SUMMARY

Wholistic Health

Thirty-three presentations between 2016 and 2024 were reviewed in order to glean the state of Wholistic Health in Afrikan communities based on Black Sustainability practitioners across the Afrikan diaspora. The Wholistic Health Industry House encompasses practitioners that address restoring balance to the complete self of a person with regards to wellness, taking into consideration the mind, the body, and spirit of the individual. The approaches of practitioners in this house address the physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual aspects of health; including practices such as the utilization of food, herbs, and essential oils, kwk. for medicinal purposes. Movement, sound, prayer, meditation, mindfulness, acupuncture, yoga, are also applied as therapeutic purposes.

The summary report for this IH integrates a variety of elements across dimensions, and most notably, many Afrikan indigenous ways of knowing and being acknowledges our interconnection to land and in relationship to family, communities, and nations vital components of community development. Key themes of Wholistic Health include healing wounds of oppression, internal health, natural healing and herbology, traditional medicine, nutrition, and the science of food, MA'AT: meditation and energy, plant-based living, stress management, entheogenic medicine, natural childbirth and funerary rites.
